Eileen Fisher’s Vancouver store launches a recycling program to benefit local non-profit Cause We Care

Customers are encouraged to recycle their EILEEN FISHER clothes to be donated to local women’s charities

EILEEN FISHER has been recycling its clothes in the New York metro area since 2009, and has recently opened a GREEN EILEEN store in Seattle. Both a store and a recycling program, GREEN EILEEN is a project of the Eileen Fisher Community Foundation and all proceeds support women and girls.

In honor of Earth Month, the EILEEN FISHER Vancouver store will also participate in a recycling program. Since there is not yet a GREEN EILEEN in Canada, clothing collected will be donated to local women’s charities through a partnership with the locally-based charitable organization Cause We Care, which assists local single mothers and their children in need. Here’s how the innovative recycling model will work. For each gently used piece of EILEEN FISHER clothing that customers donate, they receive a $5 gift card that can be used to purchase new merchandise at the EILEEN FISHER Vancouver retail store. Collection takes place at the EILEEN FISHER store at 2721 Granville from April 19 until May 31.

MONTREAL – Boutique Abe and Mary’s has opened a swoon-worthy permanent sample-sale space named L’Atelier 1958, on the second floor of the boutique. Deals are impressive, with items that retail for $60 to $700 priced at $15 to $65, though occasionally more. The catch is the sizing: You have to be on the small side. The sample sizes typically range from 2 to 6 for clothing, and Size 6 to 7 for shoes, though there are exceptions (see size specifics below).

Labels include high-style and quality lines like Parker, Rebecca Taylor, Ash (maker of high-heeled sneakers), Vince, Splendid, Ella Moss and Eileen Fisher. Samples come from the Se Ce Apparel warehouse, the company that also owns Abe & Mary’s. The selections are exceptionally curated by Michelle Paluzzi, the store’s in-house PR and head of creative. Paluzzi co-ordinates items by colour, style and season. New pieces will be stocked weekly.

A portion of proceeds from L’Atelier will go toward the Mary Katz Claman Foundation in support of the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. The foundation aims to educate younger generations about the disease and also donates toward prevention of Alzheimer’s.

Here’s the scoop on the sizes: Many items are cut generously, especially the tops and a few pieces by Eileen Fisher. Also, since these are samples, there is typically only one garment in each style.

Jeans and jean shorts by Seven For all Mankind, Sizes 27-28; Ella Moss clothing, Sizes S-M, shoes are Size 6; Ugg heels and sandals (no boots), Size 7; Ash high-heeled sneakers, Size 7; Splendid clothes, sizes S-M, shoes, Size 6; Parker socialite collection, beaded dresses, tops are Sizes 2-6; Rebecca Taylor dresses, cashmere, blazers, Sizes 4-6; Trina Turk’s fun, mod-style resort pieces are Sizes 4-6; Eileen Fisher, including beautiful white linens, S-M.

For men, Splendid Mills light cotton tops and shorts are M; and jeans by Seven are Sizes 32 and 34.

L’Atelier 1958 also carries jewelry that fit all kinds of builds — from the tiny to the large.

Names include House of Harlow (Nicole Richie’s line), Low Luv (model Erin Wasson’s line), and Belle Noel (Kim Kardashian’s line, often plated with 14-karat gold). Pieces cost $15.

Here’s the skinny on the pricing concept: “Basically there are different colour tags on all the items. The prices range from 15 dollars to the most expensive item being 85 dollars. There is a huge board where all the prices are listed next to the bright and colourful tags. Super easy to see how much an item is and since the prices are so good one can get lots and lots of nice stuff.”
